Brendan Conroy has over 15 years of professional experience in cello performance and teaching. He has a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours specialising in cello performance and performance research, and an AMusA in pianoforte performance. He has had lessons with players from the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony and the Chicago Symphony, as well participating in numerous master classes at a high level.
He has performed with the Sydney Symphony, for 10 years was a full time permanent member of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and played with many chamber groups including the Tasmanian Symphony Chamber Players, the Tasman Trio, and Virtuosi Tasmania. He has on many occasions played guest principal cello for the TSO, including for CD recordings and interstate touring. Brendan has also given many live radio solo and chamber music recitals for ABC Classic FM on both modern cello and viola da gamba. He is experienced in music from a wide range of genres, from period instrument performance through to contemporary compositions, and has performed on 5 continents.
Brendan has taught many cellists ranging from beginners through to Conservatorium students, as well as adult beginners and adults returning to playing. He has been a teacher for the Australian International Summer Orchestra Institute, the Tasmanian Symphony Fellowship Program, the Conservatorium Winter String School, and tutored at all levels of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra.
